The Association was incorporated in 1980 with the main objective of promoting the development, safety and efficiency of rural livestock transporting, as well as promoting animal welfare. In 2005 the Association extended its membership to include rural bulk carriers. Today our members include the majority of livestock transporters in WA, a large proportion of the grain and fertilizer carriers and companies involved in transporting timber products.
Rural and agricultural transport are the prime focus of all our activities. The Association is managed by an executive committee. Members of the Committee are hands on business people, most of whom would drive a truck weekly and travel on nearly every road in Western Australia’s 150,000 km road network in the course of a year. This close proximity between transporting operations and the advisory role means that representatives of the Association are close to the coal face and are able to provide practical hands on advice in various committees and consultative forums. We pursue many issues that are unique to rural WA; issues that are often not known to the decisions makers or are sometimes ignored because they are not relevant to general freight.
Whilst the members of our Management Committee are running their businesses the work of the Association is supported by part time secretarial and executive support. This helps us pursue our objectives in a professional way and respond to members needs.
Under the sponsors link you will find a list of the loyal and valued businesses who sponsors our activities. We encourage you to use their services as their assistance is an important contribution to our achievements.
The annual conference is the culmination of the year. Speakers cover a range of topics relevant to our industry such as the road network, animal welfare, live export, safety, business management and lifestyle. We also have an industry day with demonstrations of new equipment, innovative products or explanations of transport related government services. An auction is held each year with the highlight being sale of the Auctioneers tie. The proceeds of the tie are donated to Princess Margaret Hospital for children. Since the idea began more than $30,000 has been donated.
